John Cameron Reid passed away suddenly on December 1, 2008 at Chilliwack, B.C. at age 71 years. He was born on March 13, 1937 in Toronto, Ontario.

John is survived by his loving wife Christina; his daughters: Barbara Reid-Roberts (Lee), Dana Copley (Richard); his sons: Sean Reid (Lisa) and Andrew Reid (Rhonda), his grandchildren: Tessa Davis, Tyson Reid, Janelle Soth, Tyler Reid and Sydney Reid; and brother, Norman Reid (Helen).

He was predeceased by his parents Archibald and Jean Reid and brothers Ken and Derek.

A memorial will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008 at 2 p.m. from Henderson’s Funeral Home, 45901 Victoria Ave., Chilliwack, BC.

A Coast Guard memorial will be held on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion #176, 1407 Laburnum Road, Vancouver, BC, followed by a private family ceremony at sea.

Memorial donations may be made to BC Heart & Stroke Foundation in lieu of flowers.

John had 35 years of federal government service including the Canadian Navy and Canadian Air Force in his youth with service at various Canadian bases and at sea. Following his armed service, John spent the rest of his career with the Canadian Coast Guard Search and Rescue unit primarily at Kitsilano base in Vancouver, BC, along with postings to Bull Harbour, BC. During his career with the Coast Guard John was promoted to Coxswain of the Kitsilano base and was a pioneer in modern boating safety practices. Upon retiring from the Coast Guard, John and Christina spent a lot of their time traveling, golfing or enjoying their cabin (a home away from home) with family and friends.

The Coast Guard life boat Osprey will carry John’s remains to his final resting place at sea. John will be missed by all.
