John Blackie HAMPTON

October 21, 2005

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father, grandfather, great grandfather and beloved husband on October 21, 2005 at Chilliwack General Hospital.

John passed away quietly in his sleep with all his loving family by his side to guide his passage. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, June, on April 13, 2005.

John was born in Montrose, Scotland on July 28, 1928, the first son of Nora Blackie Hampton and William Dakers Hampton.

He enlisted in the British Army when he was 17 and later joined the RCAF. He immigrated to Canada in 1956 with his wife and two oldest daughters.

After he retired, he was employed with St. John Ambulance, Red River College, as a commissionaire, and was a Lieutenant in the Army Reserve. John was a Mason, a Shriner and finally, a member or the # 1 Legion in Winnipeg, MB. John leaves behind his five children, Veronica, Wendy, Julie (Jeff), Glenn and Leslie (Neil); his grandchildren, Byron, Hilary, Julie, Kelli (Tyler), Jon, Shawn (Mandy), Roger, Derek and David and his great grandchildren, Rylan, Justin, Lauryn and Devon.

Special thanks to the Palliative Care nurses and staff, his doctors, Louise Corcoran and Saul Goodman, and the wonderful Hospice ladies. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chilliwack General Hospital Palliative Care Unit.

“Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings”
