May 15, 1918-Sept. 9, 2010

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of John Saintsbury on September 9, 2010. He had gone to Abbotsford Regional Hospital for a routine test and was taken by a massive aneurism during the process. With his family by his side, he passed away in the early morning after a brief but brave struggle.

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, John led a long life filled with many adventures around the world. A veteran in the British Army in WWII, a sailor, pilot and aeronautical combustion engineer, inventor, train modeler and avid golfer, John’s life reads like a book. In fact, he felt compelled to write about it in a published autobiography. The day before his passing was spent happily at his favorite golf course, Cultus Lake, a course where he scored six “hole in one’s” during his retirement.

We think he went out in a blaze of glory, so to speak.

John is survived by his wife, Jane, two daughters, three sons, and fourteen grandchildren and his beloved sister, Elizabeth. A life well-lived. He will be missed by family and friends.

We would like to thank the night staff at Abbotsford Regional Hospital for their care and comfort during this trying time.

A celebration of John’s life will be held at Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home, 45865 Hocking Ave., Chilliwack, BC on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choosing.
