It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Johannes Cornelis (Joost) van Herk. Dad was born in Capelle aan den IJssel, the Netherlands, on February 3, 1934, and passed away in Chilliwack on February 15, 2009. Dad was interred at Chilliwack Cemeteries on Thursday, February 19, 2009 after a funeral service conducted at the Reformed Congregation in North America by Rev. T. R Treur. The family wishes to thank him for his support and services, and the nurses, staff, and doctors at the Chilliwack General Hospital for their excellent care of Dad.
Dad is survived by his wife of nearly 48 years, Judith, and by their six children, Casey (Rita), Mart (Rita) Erika (Jim), Jon, Anton (Kathy), and Wim (Selina); and by 19 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, four siblings, various in-laws, and by two grandchildren: Jonathan in 1988, and Eva-Lynn in 2000.
Dad was a hard working, honest, and serious man, who deeply loved and did everything for his wife and children. Dad lived a toilsome life, first in the Netherlands, and after 1983 in Canada, but never complained or asked for sympathy or attention. He will be greatly missed.
