Joan Katherine Richardson. Born October 10, 1924 – Passed away in her sleep December 29, 2009 at Innisfail, Alberta. Mom was born in Goderich, Ontario, the only child of James and Cora Buchanan. After recovering from TB, Mom and three girlfriends took a road trip to California by way of BC, then down the west coast. Mom fell in love with the mountains of BC and after the holiday moved to Vancouver. Mom soon found work at Woodward’s department store and was introduced to Ken Richardson through a friend. They married November 4, 1950. In 1954 they moved to Chilliwack to start a family.

Mom was a member of Cooke’s Presbyterian Church and was active with social groups, the choir and the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary. Mom was an active member of the Al-Anon family groups for almost 40 years and always had time to share her experience, strength, and hope with others.

Mom and Dad traveled extensively throughout North American in their retirement years and especially enjoyed the desert scenery in the spring. Mom also enjoyed painting which she shared with family and friends. Dad passed away in 1996 and Mom stayed in Chilliwack until 2005 when failing health and a yearning to be near her only daughter, she moved to Innisfail, Alberta. A special thanks to Dr. Barker and the staff of the Parrot Wing, Rosefield Continuous Care Home for their compassionate care of our mother. Mom leaves Candy (Pat), Innisfail, AB, Jamie (Cindy), Chilliwack, Jeff (Rhonda), Williams Lake, Paul (Rose), Calgary, AB and 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. A memorial service will be held at Cooke’s Presbyterian Church, 45825 Wellington Ave., Chilliwack on Friday, January 29, 2010 at 1 P.M. with a tea to follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada.

Rest in peace Mom till we meet again.
