February 24, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jim Sabraw, beloved husband to Vivian for 61 years. Jim was a dedicated father to Karen Kirkby (Cam) and his son Russell Sabraw who predeceased him in 2021.

Jim leaves behind a legacy of love through his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jill Laing (Shay), Jax, Ashton, Tracey Watkins (Sam), Georgia, Poppy, Andrea De Gans (Ben), Tyrel Sabraw (Becky) and Grant Sabraw.

Born in Borden Saskatchewan, Jim lived his first years on a farm. With a father in the Air Force, Jim's family made many moves to places including North Battleford, Fort St. John, Saskatoon, and finally Chilliwack, where he settled in 1969.

Jim spent his entire working career in the paint industry, eventually buying Benjamin Moore Chilliwack Decorating with partner and friend, Janet Riediger.

Jim and Viv raised their family in Chilliwack, spending much of their time camping, attending dances, hosting dinners and planning elaborate family reunions. Viv and Jim enjoyed a beautiful retirement travelling the world together - Viv loved planning the trips and Jim loved any adventure on the agenda.

Jim lived a full life and was genuinely grateful for all of it. He enjoyed music, Bowmore, his favorite Scotch, and a good laugh. Above all, Jim loved people. Whether it was his kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, 'honorary grand-kids', toddlers visiting his store, or kids in foreign countries, children everywhere were drawn to Jim's kind, gentle, playful nature.

He gave people of all ages his complete attention. In Jim's presence you felt special, always heard, and truly cared about. Jim's enormous heart, quick wit and infectious giggle will be forever remembered by all who were so incredibly lucky to know him.

Shortly after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, Jim passed peacefully February 24th, 2024, surrounded by those he adored most. Even in his last few weeks, Jim's beautiful sense of humor and warm smile lit up every room.

We'd like to thank Dr. Gordon Enn's for taking such great care of Jim over the years. A huge thank you, as well, to the incredibly compassionate staff and volunteers at Cascade Hospice. Cascade made Jim's short stay comfortable, and accommodated the many people who came to say their good-bye's.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Chilliwack Hospice Society would be greatly appreciated: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/5477.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Jim on Saturday, May 11th at the Chilliwack Curling Club; doors open at 3:30pm.

Forever in our hearts, we love you Papa Jim.
