Jessie COVEY

Jessie Covey passed away peacefully in her 100th year at Chilliwack General Hospital on Wednesday, October 12th, 2005.

Jessie was born in 1906 in Dumfries, Scotland and immigrated with her family, John & Tamar Hunter and her three brothers, John, Tom & Willie, to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

She attended Blackley and Victoria Schools and worked as a medical assistant and later as a retail sales clerk for various fashion outlets. Jessie married Laurie G. Covey at the beginning of the Great Depression, and they raised three children, Jack, Edna and Doris.

Upon her husband’s retirement from the CNR the couple moved to Chilliwack, where she continued in retail sales at Pat’s Style Shop and Jennifer’s Ladies Wear. In addition to her work, at which she excelled, Jessie enjoyed painting in oil and watercolour, music and modeling in fashion shows. She had a great love of nature and animals and the prairie landscape.

Predeceased by her son Robert in infancy, husband Laurie ,great-grandson Cody Hitrec and grandson Michael Lazecki, Jessie is survived by her loving family; devoted daughter Edna Covey, Jack (Maureen), Doris (Morris) Lazecki, Regina,. and grandchildren Joanne (Rick) Lamb, Graham(Julie) Covey, Mary Ann (Harlow) Burrows, Ian Covey, Beverly (Jan Frederick), Laurie (Mike Toop), Douglas (Joleen) Lazecki and 12 great-grandchildren, Sean, Jennifer, Jenelle, Michael, Clayton, Kelly, Jesse, Ryan, Jeffrey, Abby, TJ and Hannah.

A Memorial Tea in celebration of Jessie’s life will be held on Sunday afternoon, October 16th, at 2:00 p.m. in the Vedder Room of the Best Western Country Inn.

Memorial donations in honour of Jessie may be sent to the Salvation Army or to a charity of your choice.
