Jessie Wasik (Belgrove) passed away on Friday, October 24, 2003 at McIntosh Lodge, Chilliwack, B.C. at age 81 years. She was born February 18, 1922 at Didcot, Berkshire, England. Jessie is survived by two sons and their spouses; George (Tina) Jones, Larry (Pia) Wasik; four grandchildren, Gina, Peter (Sherry), Sarah and Andrew; two great grandchildren, Jason and Tyler; two brothers John and Leonard; two sisters, Edith and Esther and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Ignacy Wasik on July 27, 2002, by her first husband George F. Jones on March 6, 1947 and by two sisters, Mary and Elsie. In 1923, the Belgrove family emigrated to the Huntsville/Perry Sound area of Ontario. In the fall of 1929, they came to Cultus Lake and in the spring of 1930, the family moved to Columbia Valley. In April of 1931, the family homesteaded property that is now part of the Aquadel Golf Course. In March of 1943, Jessie and her sister Esther, joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corp. She was a member of the CWAC from 1943 to 1946. Most of this time was spent in Vancouver, however in 1945 she was sent to Holland, where she cashiered in a canteen set up to cater to soldiers waiting to be sent home. In 1946, she was discharged from the CWAC. In May of 1946 she married George F. Jones, who predeceased her. In 1948, she met and married Ignacy Wasik. They spent the next 54 years together farming and raising a family in Columbia Valley. In July of 2001, Jessie was diagnosed with cancer and underwent several surgeries. She moved to McIntosh Lodge in August of 2003 after spending most of her life in Columbia Valley. Jessie was proud to be a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #4, Chilliwack for many years. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday November 1, 2003 at 10:30 am. at Cultus Lake Memorial Church, Cultus Lake, B.C. with Major Angus Haggarty officiating. Interment will take place following the service at the Royal Canadian Legion Cemetery, Chilliwack Cemeteries on Little Mountain. Pall Bearers will be George Jones, Larry Wasik, Peter Jones, Andrew Wasik, John Lock, Kenneth Hewer, Don Erho and Charles Elgie. A reception will follow interment at Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home, 45865 Hocking Ave. Chilliwack, B.C. If so desired, Memorial Donations may be made to the Cancer Society.
