October 22, 1921 — July 3, 2005
Jake was born in Ukraine, immigrated at the age of 7 years to Manitoba and immediately moved to the Peace River area. He came with his parents to Chilliwack in 1947 to the farm at the corner of Banford and McGuire Roads. He married the love of his life and best friend, Hilda Rempel, on May 20, 1950. They raised their children, Rod and Pat, and farmed until 1977. Jake had also worked on the oil pipeline and in construction over the years. Upon retirement they travelled extensively, enjoying their children, grandchildren and others they adopted along the way.
He is sadly missed by his wife, Hilda; son Rod (Alicia) Spenst and daughter Pat (Rudy) Loewen; grandchildren: Andrea, Lisa and Daniel Spenst; Matthew and Andrew Loewen; Bob Jones and Alisa Boisse. Also survived by his sister Mary (John) Heidebrecht of Kelowna; brother John (Kay) Spenst of Abbotsford; sister-in-law Mary Williams of West Vancouver; sister Margaret (Dick) Hildebrandt of Campbell River and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his mother, Mary, (1960); father, Peter, (1984) and brother Cornelius.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Eden Mennonite Church on Thursday, July 7, 2005 at 2:00 p.m.
Should family and friends so desire, donations in his memory would be appreciated to the MCC.
He was a good, kind man and his presence will be missed by all who knew him.
