(1941 – 2008)

Jake was born in Neukirch, Russia. He immigrated with his Grandma Maria Thiessen, mother Anna, Sister Olga, and brother Helmut to Canada in 1948.

Jake lived on a small farm in the Mennonite community of Arnold.

Jake started cutting meat when he was 16 and was a meat cutter for 27 years. Jake then changed professions and became a Correctional Officer for the Corrections Services of Canada. He worked at Matsqui and then transferred to Kent Institution from where he retired.

Jake loved to work in his garden. He was so proud of his flowers and vegetables. He always shared his bounty with his friends and neighbours. Jake spent so much time “Gone Fishing” he almost became part of the landscape at the Fraser River. He enjoyed camping with his family, duck hunting, drawing, reading and oh yes, a good game of cribbage with his friends at the Anavets.

Jake was predeceased by his Oma, his mother, Anna Goertzen, and his uncle Jake Thiessen.

Jake will be missed dearly by his wife Rose; his sons: Randy (Samantha), Darren (Cheri); daughter: Treana; grandchildren: Stephanie, Brandon, Kyle, Alicia, and Darby; his brother: Helmut (Karin) Janzen; sister: Olga (Alex) Panda; and their families.
