“Christine”

(nee Honey)

It is with great sadness and loving memories that we mourn the passing of Chris “Granny” Hladych who passed away peacefully on February 21st, 2009 at the Chilliwack General Hospital after a short illness. She was predeceased by her husband Mike Hladych (1984) and her son George (1966). Chris is survived by her daughters Jean and Lorraine, grandchildren Bill, Lisa, Candace, Adam, and Chelsy, brothers Edgar, Frank, and Arthur, sisters Freda, Doris, and Shirley, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Born November 10th 1923 in Cornwall, England, Chris immigrated to Canada in 1925. After spending her childhood in Duncan and Chu Chua, BC, the family moved to Burnaby. Chris graduated from Essendale/Riverview nursing school in 1945. She married Mike in 1947 and remained in Burnaby after her marriage. Chris worked as a psychiatric nurse at Riverview Hospital and then Woodlands School until 1972 at which time she moved to Chilliwack and resided there until her death. During Chris’s years in Chilliwack she was an active volunteer at the Chilliwack Senior’s centre, spending many hours visiting and running Bingo games. She enjoyed travelling, playing Cribbage, and was an avid hockey fan supporting the Montreal Canadians and the Canucks.

Chris was loved by all who met her and had many lifelong friends who she loved in return. She was a warm and caring person who valued her family and friends above all and will be sorely missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chilliwack SPCA in memory of Chris’ love for animals.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 6th 2009 at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel at Henderson’s Funeral Home, 45901 Victoria Avenue, Chilliwack. Reception to follow in the Tea Room.
