Irene MUND

Mund, Irene (Levin, Sosnowsky) nee Friesen, died peacefully in her sleep at the Inglewood Care Centre in West Vancouver on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005.

Irene was born in Friedensfeld, Russia, on July 29, 1915.

During her lifetime she personally experienced the impact of WWI, the Russian Revolution and Civil War, the purges of Stalin, and the destruction and dislocation of WWII. Her determination to find a better life for her family brought her to Chilliwack, B.C., 1948. Here she settled and continued to support and nurture her family through her profession as a nurse/caregiver and her deep commitment to her Christian faith.

Following many successful years in the nursing home business in Chilliwack, she retired to Tsawwassen in 1978 where she met and married Alfred Mund. In 2001 she moved to the North Shore.

Irene is survived by her daughter Margarita Bruehler and children, Michelle, Tanya, Mark (Samantha) and three great-grandchildren, Justine, Harrison and Matthew; son, Victor Sosnowsky (Lee) and three grandchildren, Amy, Katie and Lena; son, Woldy Sosnowsky (Cathy) and two grandchildren, Michael and Tanya; great-granddaughter, Ainsley.

Irene is predeceased by grandson, Alex Sosnowsky in 1992.

She is lovingly remembered by many friends and relations in Canada, U.S.A., Germany and Ukraine.

Funeral services will be held at West Vancouver Presbyterian Church, 2893 Marine Dr., West Vancouver at 2:00 pm, Wed., Aug. 24, 2005. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Mennonite Central Committee.
