Irene Marion (Marnie) Nelmes
May 23, 1916 - September 8, 2017
Marion Nelmes, late of Chilliwack, passed away on September 8, 2017 at the Cascade Hospice in her 101st year.
She was born in Consecon, Ontario on May 23, 1916, the youngest child of the late Andrew Caldwell Alexander and Margaret M. Brydon.
After graduating from Consecon Continuation School, she trained at the Ontario Hospital in Kingston, affiliated for a year at Toronto Western Hospital, and graduated in 1938 as a Registered Nurse.
She also completed a Post- Graduate Program at the Toronto Psychiatric Hospital. She moved to Chilliwack in the late 1940's and worked for a short time at the Chilliwack General Hospital as a General Duty Nurse.
For the remainder of her professional years, she was employed as a nurse/receptionist in the offices of Doctors Bob and Charlie Patten, J. D. Grandy and R.W Whetter, and A.D. Colledge until her retirement in 1983.
She was predeceased by her husband Allan in 1960, brothers John, Wallace (Kietha), Harry (Bernice), Bryden (Hilda), sisters Annie (Robert) Brown, Ruby (Hilding) Berquist, Marguerite (Carman) Mastin and Kathleen (Ross) Burke.
She leaves to treasure her memory one son, Bryden and wife Gladys, grandsons Jason (Brenda), Jeffrey (Lela), her much loved great grandchildren Denae, Alexander, Robyn, and soon to arrive number four, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins across Canada, USA, and Australia.
She was the last of her generation.
