Hugh Lueck passed into the presence of his Lord on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at the age of 92 years.

He was born on May 13, 1918 in Volhynia, Ukraine (Russia) and came to Canada with his parents and 4 brothers in 1926. They purchased a farm and made their home in Lockwood, Saskatchewan.

In 1942, Hugh entered the Canadian Armed Forces where he served for 4 years. In 1944 he married Elsie Muhlbeier in Nokomis, Saskatchewan. They moved to Toronto, ON where they lived until Hugh was discharged from the army in 1945. From there they moved to Chilliwack, one of the places where Hugh had been stationed during the war. Two children, Carol and Lorne, were born to them.

Hugh loved his family and friends. He served for many years in the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir and serving as the Sunday School Superintendent. He also headed up “Youth for Christ” in Chilliwack for many years.

Hugh worked for McKen­zie Brothers Construction for 40 years, retiring in 1977. After his retirement, he took up fishing and was “hooked” on it. He loved to work in his vegetable garden and to make things in his workshop.

Hugh is survived by two brothers, Otto (Ruth) and Gene (Terry), his daughter, Carol (Henry) Zablocki, his son, Lorne (Linda); grandchildren, Justin (Heidi), Michael (Amanda), Todd (Stephanie), Brandon (Amanda), Chad (Christina), Leah (Michael) and Landon. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, Olivia, Judah, Presley and Anna. He was predeceased by his wife Elsie; parents, Emanuel and Tusnelda; five brothers, Eugen, Bob, Erwin Harry, Willy and one sister, Irma.

The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to the staff of Heritage Village for their care and compassion and for the many kindnesses shown to Hugh.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, September 27, 2010 at 7:30 pm from Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home, 45865 Hocking Ave., Chilliwack. Interment will take place at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 28th at Chilliwack Cemetery on Little Mountain.

Memorial Service will be at 2:00 pm at the City Life Church, formerly Glad Tidings Fellowship, 46641 Chilliwack Central Rd. Chilliwack, BC.

If any so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Hugh’s name may be made to City Life Church Missions, c/o City Life Church.
