Herman John Alke passed away peacefully on Monday, July 18, 2005 after an 18-month stay at Heritage Village Long-Term Care Facilility in Chilliwack.
John was born on July 8, 1913 in Austin, Manitoba.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret; five children: Eloise (Wallace) Pettigrew, Mary-Susan (Peter) Gagnon, Byron (Carol) Alke, Elizabeth Alke, Hilliary (Ian) Bray; nine grandchildren and two grandchildren.
John was predeceased by his two brothers, four sisters and his grandson, Aaron Gagnon.
John and Margaret moved to Hope from White Rock in the early 1980’s and then to Chilliwack in 2001.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, July 22, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Chilliwack followed by internment at St. Mary’s Cemetery; Rev. Eugenio Aloisio officiating.
