With sadness, the family of Helmut Kuester would like to announce his passing from this life into the next on Sunday, November 28, 2010, in Chilliwack, BC.
Helmut was born on June 4, 1947 in Kapfenberg Austria. He emigrated to Canada, along with his parents, John and Anna, and his brother, Henry, in 1950. After living in Yarrow for a short time, he grew up in Sardis.
He was always known as a hard worker; in his youth many summers were spent picking beans and berries and hauling hay for the local farmers. At age sixteen, he began a career on the tugboats, which lasted for twenty-two years. In his later years he worked for the John I. Haas Hop Company for Wisbey’s Farms.
Helmut is survived by his wife, Roxanne. He also leaves six children: Bryan, Lawna, Clayton, Amber, Loriann and Haley; ten grandchildren and two brothers, Henry (Lorraine) and Ron (Cindy), and his sister Monica (Bryan) Gordon. Helmut was predeceased by his parents John and Anna.
The memorial service will be at 11 am on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at St. Mary’s Church, 8909 Mary Street, Chilliwack.
