Hélène CONTANT

Hélène passed away peacefully on January 24, 2005 in Chilliwack, with her husband Don and her daughter Sylvie at her side.

Hélène was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec City on December 13, 1960 and grew up in Quebecc City, where she went on to complete a B.Sc. at Laval University. Moving west, she continued her studies at the University of British Columbia and earned an M.Sc. in Plant Science in 1988.

After her marriage to Don Quiring of Vancouver on October 12, 1985 the couple settled in Chilliwack, and both worked at the Agriculture Canada research station in Agassiz. In 1990 their infant daughter Sylvie joined the family.

Beyond career and motherhood, Hélène was involved in many of the ministries and activities of Broadway Church. There she initiated and participated in the sponsorship of two refugee families. She also undertook annual fundraising for cystic fibrosis research. Her family and friends remember her vibrant faith in Christ, her generous concern for others, her willingness to work, and her cheerful disposition.

Hélène is survived by her husband Don Quiring, daughter Sylvie, parents Monique Blanchard and Pierre Contant, brother François, and sister Anne.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005 at 1 p.m. at Broadway Church, 46611 Maple Ave., Chilliwack, with pastors Wilf Richert and Gary Simpson participating.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Hélène’s memory may be made to Mennonite Central Committee Refugee Assistance, or to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
