Helen Ulla (Urchit) Peterson

January 29, 1934 - June 21, 2017

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Helen at her home in Chilliwack. Beloved mother of Keitha and Neely; sister to Harry (Pat); aunt to Lynette (deceased), Gail (Graham) and Brad (Heather); great aunt to Jenna, Brent and Megan. Her baby cats, Mercedes and Finnegan, will also sorely miss her loving attention. Helen was born in Kamloops and started her family in New Westminster, then moved to Ontario to operate a camping and cottage resort. She developed an interest in mineral collecting and became a known expert in the field. Helen opened a rock shop, discovered a new mineral in 1967 and wrote The Peterson Guide to Mineral Collecting. She was an avid reader and was particularly interested in nutrition and alternative medicine, as well as gardening. Her intelligence, vast knowledge and dry sense of humour will be missed by family and friends. Special thanks to the Chilliwack Palliative Care nurses and the many community support workers who helped her on her journey. How lucky we are to have had her touch our lives. How sad it is to know that she has left. How we will smile when we remember her. It was Helen’s wish to be cremated and that no service be held. A family celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
