Gwendolyn Alice READ

June 24, 2004

On June 24, 2004, Gwendolyn Alice Read began her journey with her Lord and savior, passing away peacefully at Chilliwack General Hospital. A longtime resident of Chilliwack, she was a loving and very proud mother to Larry (Bonnie) and Lee (Lynda). And a supportive grandmother to Max, Kayla, April and to Jesse.

Gwen was born May 28, 1933 in LaFleche, Saskatchewan. She lived in nearby Palmer with her Parents Charles and Clara Fox, Brothers Tom, Heb and Don and sister Clara. After high school, she moved to North Battleford Saskatchewan to attend secretarial school. From there it was to Regina, where she was named Beta Sigma Phi Girl of the year in 1963. She settled in B.C. in 1966. She lived in Burnaby, White Rock and finally Chilliwack.

Gwen loved to sing and play music. Her favorites were the keyboard and accordion. Dancing was also a favorite past time: initially Square and then in later years, Line dancing. Tending to her yard was also a favorite past time along with expounding on the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. An avid cyclist, Gwen was well known for riding all over Chilliwack running errands. She liked to express her opinion on a number of issues including politics. Becoming a true woman of the 21st century, Gwen loved spending time on the computer learning about the world via the internet. A Memorial Service was held Tuesday, June 29 at the 7th Day Adventist church in Kamloops.

Grandma Read will be sorely missed and not forgotten by those who knew and loved her. We know you are at peace and will be with us always. Should friends so desire, they can donate in her memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
