(nee Hartford)

Mar. 1, 1942 - Aug. 23, 2009

It is with great sadness that we announce that Gladys passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23rd after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.

Gladys was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on March 1, 1942 to William and Ruth Hartford. She lived there until the family moved to Whonnock B.C. in 1955. She eventually moved to Chilliwack in 1977 where she raised her own family. Gladys began her career in 1977 by volunteering for the Vedder Elementary Library. She obtained employment with the Fraser Valley Library and retired in 2001 after 20 + years spent in Agassiz, Maple Ridge and Chilliwack. She enjoyed hiking, walks, picnics and mostly her family. She was also an avid birder.

Gladys was predeceased by her father William Hartford in 1962 and her stepfather, Ted Lochead in 1971.

She is survived by her mother, Ruth Lochead, her brother William (Bill) Hartford (Kathy), her two loving sons Gord (Tracy) and Todd (Doris) as well as her grandchildren Zach, Alexis, Kaylee and Emma and her nieces.

Gladys was a very special Mom and Grandma, her love and devotion for her family will last in their hearts and memories forever. A special thank you to Aunt Kathy and Gladys’s close friend, Babs who supported Gladys and her children through this difficult time and the extraordinary and comforting care provided by the Palliative Care Team at Chilliwack General Hospital.

At her request a private family gathering will be held at Alpine Meadows at Manning Park as this was one of her favourite locations. A Memorial tea will be held with family and close friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those who desire may make a donation in her memory through the family towards a purchase of a memorial park bench.
