Gerhard RINTISCH

June 16, 2002

Gerhard Willi Paul Rintisch passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2002 at Chilliwack General Hospital. He was born January 20, 1926 in Herzberg, Germany to Marie Rinisch. A veteran of the Second World War, and carpenter by trade, Gerhard immigrated to Canada in 1953 with his wife, Gisela, and daughter, Renate. The following years brought a series of moves and two more children, Gary and Ralph. In 1968, the family settled in Chilliwack where a fourth child, Gail, was born. Gerhard worked as a carpenter and contractor for many years. His recreational loves were farming and hunting. On June 5, 1996, tragedy struck when Gerhard experienced a brain aneurysm, and lost his ability to walk and drive. This necessitated a move from the farm, and Gerhard had to learn to live with a wheelchair and the need for constant care. The next six years were difficult to say the least, yet he and his family were glad for each day. Gerhard is survived by his loving wife, Gisela; sons, Gary and Ralph; daughter Gail; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and siblings, Heinz, Horst, and Irmgard. He was predeceased by his daughter Renate, in 1994. A memorial service was held on Thursday, June 20, 2002 at 11 a.m., from Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home in Chilliwack. Donations in Gerhard’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC.
