Joyce - “Joycie” - “Red”- Grandma and Great-Grandma

With deep regret we announce the quiet passing Joyce (Geraldine) Lounsbury at Chilliwack General Hospital on July 9th, 2010, with her loving husband Dale at her bedside. Born in St. Mawgan’s Cornwall, England on November 30th, 1927, she came to Canada in 1957, settling with her family in Surrey. Widowed when her husband Walt died in the late sixties, she met her husband Dale in September 1979 on a blind date, and they were together until her demise.

Joyce had a fierce love of family and friends, and was the perfect definition of “Family Matriarch” to us all. She was the lynch pin at all our family gatherings be it at home or dining out, and took great delight in being in the company of Loved Ones: sons Robert “Rob” and James “Jim”; daughter-in-law Shannon; grandchildren Kristen and husband Chris (Calgary), Mike (Surrey), Michelle (Chilliwack), Alison (Abbotsford), Sandy and partner Josh (Surrey), and Steve (Chilliwack), as will as great grandchildren Jakob, Emily and Chase. If asked, she would confess that they were, “All my favorites!”

Missing her too, will be her second family: mother-in-law Mertia Lounsbury, sisters-in-law Donna Bell, Rose (Dennis) Moore, numerous step-great-nieces and nephews, and of course her family in England: sister, Honorable Mrs. Raymond (Vera) Fox-Strangways and Elizabeth; nephew and wife the Earl and Countess of Ilchester, Robin Fox-Strangways and Elizabeth; nephew the Honorable Paul Fox-Strangways; as well as numerous cousins and great-nieces and nephews.

Joyce loved her home, shopping, her collection of Royal Doulton figurines, her Bergsma plates and figurines, her Teddy Bear collection (most of them made by her husband Dale) and life in general. Before her health started to deteriorate she also enjoyed boating, picnics, motorcycle trips – always as a passenger and dancing…. and my, she could dance like a feather!

Over the latter years she took several cruises to Alaska, Mexico and Hawaii, as well as trips throughout the Pacific Northwest, enjoying life to the fullest.

She will be deeply missed.

By request no memorial service is planned, but there will be a celebration of her life in the Stoney Creek Ranch clubhouse, 5986 Hunter Creek Creston (foot of Promontory) on Sunday, Aug. 1st, 2010 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. All who wish to attend are heartily welcome.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice in her name would be appreciated.

“Remember her Smile…”
