Georgina Mae (Challoner) DEMMITT

August 19, 2007

It is with a great sense of loss and sorrow that we announce the passing of Georgina Demmitt (Challoner).

She passed away quietly early Sunday morning Aug 19 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

Most of her life Gena didn’t stray too far from her roots. Born in Vancouver, schooled in Hope, raised her two daughters on Evans Rd, re-met Troy who took her off to Richmond, and then Hong Kong.

In Feb 2006 Gena returned to Chilliwack, delighting in decorating their new town home. Her ashes will rest in Chilliwack cemetery

Gena took on any task in life — whether running a home, working at Cherry Ford, volunteering as treasurer for the Chilliwack Transition House, working for the Richmond Art Gallery — with a smile, a positive attitude, boundless energy and a passion for living life to the fullest.

She danced with Troy for the joy of dancing “as if no one was watching” whether it was at the Chilliwack Jazz Festival, down the aisles of Safeway, or on a street corner in Rome.

Her love of her family knew no limits and she loved her daughters, her stepdaughter and stepson and seven grandchildren with unconditional love. Nothing was too much effort for a friend.

She is survived by her husband Troy, her daughters Nicole Sukkan and Kim Takasaki (Darren); stepson: Shaun Demmitt (Leanne); stepdaughter: Sarah Dhillon (Paul); son-in-law: Rick Takasaki and seven grandchildren: Breanna, Kenji, Trevor, Mark, Tage, Bradley, and Alison and her sister Sherry Erickson (Len).

No service by request. Cremation.

A celebration of Gena’s life will be held at 46221 Margaret St, (Knights of Columbus hall) Chilliwack on Sept 19 at 4 pm. Light refreshments will be served.

“Rather than mourn the absence of the flame, let us celebrate how brightly it glowed”.

Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in lieu of Flowers would be appreciated.
