George Onsorge passed away at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at the age of 87 years. He was born in Breslau, East Germany where he lived until he joined the German Navy where he worked as an electrician. He met and married his bride Elfriede (Boock) in Flensburg, Germany in 1940. Living in Flensburg, George and Elli had 3 sons, Monty, Ulli, and Ben after which the family immigrated to Canada. George gained employment with Westinghouse where he worked faithfully until his retirement. Throughout his many years, George was involved in Christian service in his church and with youth clubs and camps. He and Elli maintained a lovely vacation home on Savary Island where they ministered to many over the years. In 2000, George and Elli relocated to Vernon to be closer to family. George is survived by his loving wife, Elli; his sons, Monty (Lori), Ulli (Patti), and Ben (Marie); his grandchildren, Alan (Michelle), Susan (Kerry), Sonja (Herb), Teresa, Todd (Heather), Stephen (Karyn), Lisa (Steve); and his great-grandchildren, Rachel, Michael, Katelyn, Samuel, Danielle, Luke, Madeleine, Chloe, and Gavin. George is also survived by his cousin Alfred in Germany. George had a profound impact on those who knew him and he will be missed. A celebration of George’s life will take place at Vernon Alliance Church Monday, October 6th at 1 pm. Arrangements and cremation have been entrusted to Fisher’s Funeral Home of Salmon Arm.
