George Leonard MITCHELL

George Leonard Mitchell passed away on Monday October 18, 2004 at Chilliwack General Hospital at age 87 years. He was born May 28, 1917 in Prince Albert, Sask. to Mary and Harry Mitchell. After arriving in Vancouver in 1941, George met the love of his life, Margaret, they would have been married 62 years this week.

Their wonderful marriage was blessed with four daughters, Sharon (Gary), Sandy, Colleen (Harry) and Wendy (Dale). He was also proud grandpa to 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

George was predeceased by his parents; sister, Mabel; brother, Ronald and granddaughter Barbie.

George was a man known for his quiet strength, calm demeanor and soft smile. He was a successful and well respected contractor in the Lower Mainland but his proudest accomplishment was his service in WWII with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders.

After many eventful winters traveling to Arizona, George and Margie settled in Chilliwack where they resided until his passing.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004 at 10 am from the Chapel of Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home, 45865 Hocking Ave., Chilliwack, BC. Major Angus Haggarty officiating.

In lieu of flowers, George would have appreciated donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Diabetes Foundation.
