April 10, 1930 - May 7, 2012

Francis Joseph Lemay of Chilliwack, BC, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at home.

Francis was born in Carbon, Alberta on April 10, 1930. He married Jane (nee MacPherson) in 1953 in Red Deer, AB and moved to Calgary in 1957 where they lived for many years and raised their four children: Debra (Steve) Curry, Candace (Lloyd) Saar, Brad (Lindy) Lemay, Brent (Kim) Lemay. Francis is survived by nine grandchildren: Sean, Tyler Curry; Eric, Nicholas Saar; Jenica (Gord) Copithorne, Jeremy (Suzie) Lemay; Evan, Riley, Connor Lemay and 5 great-grandchildren: Kaelyn, Karly, Ky, Alexandria & Brooke.

He started with the Canadian Army Militia on November 14, 1950. He was employed on special full-time duty from January 1, 1956 to June 17, 1961, October 27, 1961 to May 28, 1962 and from June 6, 1962 to June 21, 1962. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant, on December 15, 1964.

He was an active member of the Lions Club where he devoted many years as a volunteer. He worked as a mechanic and later on as Security for Firestone. He also worked in the construction industry as a carpenter for many years. Francis was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, hunting & fishing.

He moved to Chilliwack in 2002, where he spent his last years with his wife, Diane. He loved living near the ocean, mountains and lakes. He was an adventurer by heart who loved life to the fullest. Francis is fondly remembered by many, perhaps best by his very hearty and distinctive laugh. He especially loved travelling and his motto was, “on the road again!”
