Ethel May BAILEY (nee Phillips)

October 20, 2004

In loving memory of Ethel May Bailey (nee Phillips) born on October 6, 1919 in Kincaid Sask. Passed away peacefully in Chilliwack General Hospital, with family by her side, on October 20, 2004.

Predeceased by her loving husband John, June 28, 1944.

She will be greatly missed by her daughters Etta Richmond (Al), Beverley Tecklenborg (Joe), and her son John Bailey (Marja), brother Bert Phillips (Norma), as well as all her Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and many friends in Vancouver and Chilliwack and especially Frankie, her guardian angel.

After being diagnosed with Cancer, Ethel made the most of every day and every hour of her last year. Her weekly Scrabble games with close friends brought great joy to her life as did her volunteering with the Hospital Auxillary.

She was married to John Bailey in Prince Albert, Sask. in 1940, where their children were born. After three short years of marriage, she tragically lost her husband in an airplane accident. She was left to raise the three babies on her own in a home of little money, but lots of love. In order to support her family, she moved to B.C. and worked in Vancouver.

Ethel retired to Chilliwack in 1983 to be near her family and to care for Meghan, the light of her life, so Etta could go back to work. She went everywhere with the family and especially loved her trips to Hawaii.

A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday Oct. 27 at 1:00 at Carman United Church, Rev. Michael Hare officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Chilliwack Hospice Society would be welcomed.
