Passed away peacefully on August 21, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born to John and bertha Kuest on August 23, 1922 in Klisztiz, Romania, emigrating to Canada in 1928. Erna was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. She loved to golf, curl, travel, work in her garden and lunch with her “Red Hat” ladies. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her sons, Gerald Newby, Alan Newby; daughters-in-law, Linda Newby and Maureen Newby; grandchildren, Michael (Loesha) Newby, Brent Newby, Yvonne (John) Aleck, Gordon Newby, Shannon (Tyler) Davis, Jeffery Newby; great grandchildren, Katelin and Jake Newby, Brandon, Jennifer, Jordan and Caitlin Aleck, Lucas, Avery, Sarah and William Davis; and sister Patricia Musgrove. She was predeceased by husbands, Lloyd Newby and Walter Ferguson; son Gordon Newby; parents, John Kuest and Bertha Skinner; and sisters Emma Murphy, Ellen Handy and Paula Harris.
A service will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 10:30 am at Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home, reception to follow. Pallbearers are Michael, Brent, Gordon, Jeffrey, Alex and Chris Newby. Memorial donations may be made to the BC Cancer Society. Special thanks to Dr. Basson and the nursing staff at Chilliwack General Hospital.
