Joan (76 yrs.) passed away peacefully from Alzheimer’s surrounded by loved ones in Inglewood Care Centre on Monday, February 1st, 2010.

Predeceased by her father Clifford (1973) and mother Edna (1987).

She is survived by and sadly missed by her loving husband of 46 years Ron, daughter Susan Watson (Ian), son David, sisters Eileen Wiley (Fred) in Oliver, Dorothy Hunter (Ed) on Mayne Island, Brother and sister-in-law Bruce and Fay Watson, and an uncle and aunt Doug and Terry Sauder. Joan will also be missed by her many cousins, nieces and nephews and by Ron’s relatives and their friends.

Joan was born and raised in Chilliwack and graduated as a primary school teacher from normal school in 1953 and earned a B.Ed from UBC in 1982. She taught in Vancouver, Victoria, England and in North Vancouver.

Married to Ron in 1963, she enjoyed children, sewing, orchids, quilting, square dancing and travel.

She was a member and past officer of the ladies auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Vancouver #2075 and a member of the Lady Vancouver Club, the Stardowners Square Dance Club, the Fraser Valley Quilters’ Guild, the University Women’s Club of Vancouver, Highlands United Church and the BC Retired Teachers Association.

Joan was a loving wife, mother, homemaker, teacher and had a great smile and a gentle nature. She will be missed by all who knew her. Special thanks to all the loving staff at Inglewood Care Centre in West Vancouver.

A celebration of life will be held for Joan on Saturday, February 27th, 2010 at 2pm at First Memorial Boal Chapel, 1505 Lillooet Road, North Vancouver.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Friends so wishing may make donations in Joan’s memory to Alzheimer Society of BC, 300-828 W. 8th Ave., Vancouver BC V5Z 1E2 or at any other branch.
