Dorothy Marie REMPEL

June 22, 2003

Dorothy Marie Rempel, born April 2, 1942, passed away on June 22, 2003 after a three year struggle with cancer.

Born in Winnipeg, Man., Dorothy moved with her family to Chilliwack in 1947. She attended Central Elementary and Chilliwack Junior until 1957, when her family moved to Vancouver. There she attended David Thompson and Killarney, graduating from the MEI. She met Henry while at MEI, and fell in love with him. They married in 1963.

After teacher training at UBC she and Henry taught at Hazelton in 1964. From 1965 to 1968, she taught in Vancouver, while Henry completed his studies at UBC. In June of 1968, Allan was born; they moved to Chilliwack.

Henry taught, Dorothy became a stay-at-home mom with David’s birth in 1970 and Michael’s in 1973. In the mid-70s, she re-entered the classroom as a primary and special-ed teacher, and taught at several schools until she and Henry retired in June 1998.

Her faith journey started as a little child when she accepted Jesus into her heart. That simple and sincere childhood decision yielded a faith that was unwavering for the rest of her life, revealing a child-like purity and life-long devotion to influencing children, both in Sunday School and public school. Her ability to impart wonder, engender trust and convey fascination endeared her to both children and adults.

Predeceased by son Michael in December 2000, Dorothy will continue to be cherished by mother Selma Peters, Henry, Heather and Allan, their children, Noah, Madeline and Julie; Tania and David and their children, Tanner and Brady, as well as her brother Wes and Marja, and nephew Cornelius.

A graveside service at Vedder View Cemetery is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2003 with a memorial service at 2 p.m. at Sardis Community Church. Friends, as well as family are invited to both.
