Doris Irene Bailey passed away on September 18, 2009 at Heritage Village Care Home at the age of 80. She was born October 30, 1928 in Tofield, Alberta to Wyman & Irene Odiorne.

Doris grew up in the Ross Creek area and attended school there. She married Cecil Edward Bailey on June 6th, 1946. Their union was blessed with five children. Daughter Cecilia Elaine, infant son Edward, son Lewis Don, daughter Colleen Nettie Marie and daughter Sylvia Gail Bailey.

Mom was proud of her family and home and worked hard on our small farm which they purchased in 1955 on Carter Rd., Sardis, B.C. following Mom’s illness and the sale of the farm in Alberta. She loved to garden, embroidery, and in the summer would pick raspberries with her children. Mom was a good cook. She was an active volunteer with the Hospital auxiliary for many years and did canvassing for heart / stroke and cancer societies. She belonged to the New Beginnings Group and Merry Macs. She was involved at her church at Chilliwack United and loved singing hymns.

Doris is survived by daughters: Cecilia (Vance) Gordon of Edmonton, Alta., Colleen (Stan) Strahl and Sylvia Bailey (Steve Davis) of Chilliwack. Daughter-in-law: Ding Bailey in Thailand, Grandchildren: Patrick Gordon in Ottawa, Ont., James Gordon in Bermuda; Michael, Bryan and Steven Strahl in Chilliwack, and Nongahe and Tea’t Bailey in Thailand. Brothers: Robert Odiorne in Williams Lake, B.C., Lester (Wilma) Odiorne in Armstrong, B.C.; Sisters: Edna Thromburg in Saskatoon, Sask., Esther Schubert of Edmonton, Alberta.

Doris was predeceased by her loving husband Cecil Edward Bailey in l972, infant son Edward at birth 1950, and son Lewis Don Bailey in 2006 in Thailand.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 26th, 2009 at 2 p.m. Henderson Funeral Home, Victoria St., Chilliwack.
