Doreen Marie BASTABLE

Doreen Bastable passed away peacefully on January 30, 2006 at Heritage Village, Chilliwack, B.C.  Born in Carlisle, England, June 6, 1915, Doreen trained and qualified as a Registered Nurse at the Royal Bradford Infirmary, England.  She served with the St. John Ambulance Brigade during World War II and emigrated to Canada following the war.  She nursed in many hospitals in Canada including the Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal, Quebec and in Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia.  She spent many years at the Chilliwack General Hospital before her retirement.  She specialized in premature baby and pediatric nursing and was known for her quiet, gentle yet very professional care of her patients.  Pre-deceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Lorraine Bastable of Peterborough, England and brother-in-law Frank Cooper of Nottingham, England.   Doreen is survived by her sister Kathleen Cooper of Nottingham, England as well as many other relatives and friends in England, Wales, the United States and Canada.  Many thanks to the staff and volunteers at Heritage Village for their exceptional care and kindness to Doreen.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday,  February 25, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Henderson’s Funeral Home, Chilliwack, B.C.  The Rev. John Sovereign officiating.  No flowers by request. Donations may be made to The Heritage Village Auxiliary, 7525 Topaz Drive, Chilliwack, B.C.  V2R 3C9.
