Doreen Bastable passed away peacefully on January 30, 2006 at Heritage Village, Chilliwack, B.C. Â Born in Carlisle, England, June 6, 1915, Doreen trained and qualified as a Registered Nurse at the Royal Bradford Infirmary, England. Â She served with the St. John Ambulance Brigade during World War II and emigrated to Canada following the war. Â She nursed in many hospitals in Canada including the Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal, Quebec and in Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia. Â She spent many years at the Chilliwack General Hospital before her retirement. Â She specialized in premature baby and pediatric nursing and was known for her quiet, gentle yet very professional care of her patients. Â Pre-deceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Lorraine Bastable of Peterborough, England and brother-in-law Frank Cooper of Nottingham, England. Â Doreen is survived by her sister Kathleen Cooper of Nottingham, England as well as many other relatives and friends in England, Wales, the United States and Canada. Â Many thanks to the staff and volunteers at Heritage Village for their exceptional care and kindness to Doreen.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Â February 25, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Henderson’s Funeral Home, Chilliwack, B.C. Â The Rev. John Sovereign officiating.
