SMITH, David Charles
March 13, 1935 - April 28, 2017
It is with sadness we announce the sudden passing of David Smith, a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. David was born March 13, 1935 at home in Redfield Saskatchewan and passed away April 28, 2017 at his home in 100 Mile House BC.
He is survived by his daughter Renata Aden (Howie) and family, his sisters Margaret Gosling, Ellen MacGregor, Lillian Webb, his sisters in-laws Nancy Smith and Dene Smith as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many. David was predeceased by his parents Jack & Nelle Smith, his life partner of over 40 years, Jean Capnerhurst, his brothers Ralph and Art, and his brothers-in-laws Irwin MacGregor, Len Gosling and Doug Webb.
David was in the Canadian Navy during the Korean conflict. He served aboard the HMCS Cayuga and often shared stories of his time spent in the Navy. David had a very colourful, interesting life and shared many stories about his adventures with his loved ones. He had a gift of reciting poetry and especially enjoyed sharing these recitals with family and friends. During his early working life, David was employed in the Logging industry and then moved to 100 Mile House where he worked for 30 plus years in the Mill there. He retired 17 years ago. During his lifetime, David and his partner Jean travelled to Europe, Australia, Mexico and to the United States. In recent years he loved spending time with his sisters and brother in Paradise Valley Arizona. He often took road trips from 100 Mile to the Coast to visit family. In his retirement, he took up the hobby of making clocks and many have received one as a cherised gift.
There will be an Interment and Grave Side Service for David on Saturday May 13, 2017 in 100 Mile at 2 pm, at 225 Cedar Ave, 100 Mile House BC and a Celebration of Life will be held in Chilliwack at the Masonic Hall, 45905 Hocking Ave, Chilliwack BC on Saturday June 3, 2017 from 1pm - 4pm. Donations to 100 Mile House Legion, 933 Alder St., 100 Mile House BC, V0K 2E0 in his honour would be greatly appreciated.
