David Andrew VISAGIE

In loving memory of David Andrew Visagie. He passed away at his home June 5, 2006 at the age of 90 years. Born June 20th, 1915 in Potchefstoom, South Africa.

He was a man with great pride who served in the South African Army from 1939-1946. Afterwards, he journeyed to England where he married his wife, Barabara, who he had met in Italy while they were both in the Army.

After a year in England, they moved to Hespler, Ontario where he was employed as a weaver.

On the outbreak of the Korean War, he joined the Canadian Engineers and was sent to Chilliwack. He went to Ft. Lewis before being sent to Korea with the special force for 18 months. He served in South Africa, Egypt, Chilliwack, Edmonton, Korea, the Middle East, Gagetown, and twice in Germany. On honourable discharge from the Army, he joined Cattermole Timber as an accountant and later as camp watchman for 20 years.

He retired at 70 and took an interest in gardening which became his passion. He joined the Chilliwack Agricultural Society and helped for many years; also took many prizes at local fairs, o nce having to compete against his grandsons at the Agassiz fair.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, of 59 years; sons: Henrik (Dianne); grandchildren: David & Jennifer Oakville, Ontario, David Jr. (Wendy); grandson: Blair, North Vancouver, BC, Robert (Debbie); grandson: Vashti, Dallas & Connor of Chilliwack, BC.

Special thank you to Dr. Fitzpatrick and Chilliwack Home Care Nursing Support. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Visagie home on July 8, 2006 at 1:00 p.m.
