It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cora Wawryk, a beloved sister, mother, grandmother and friend. She passed away unexpectedly on February 15th, 2010 at her home in Chilliwack, BC at the age of 84 years.
She was predeceased by Nick, her loving husband of 62 years. She is survived by her sister, Esther Georgeson, of Bellevue, Washington, two children, Carol (Alex) Balakshin, of Abbotsford and Gerry (Jean) of Chilliwack and grandchildren, Elvira, Sarah, Jeff, Jody and Sheila (Cory). Cora was born on June 4th, 1925 as the second daughter to the late Amy (Dennis) and William Fettes.
She was raised and educated in Rosedale and Chilliwack. Cora was a very active member of the Women’s Guild at Cooke’s Presbyterian Church, including holding the position of Treasurer for many years. She also found pride and joy in her home. Her interests included tending her extensive garden, including her beautiful geraniums and dahlias. Her culinary skills were highlighted in her baking and preserves, which were eagerly devoured by friends and family. Sewing and crafts were also activities she enjoyed and she shared those skills with her children and grandchildren. Cora was bright and witty, followed the issues of the day, and was always ready to chat and laugh with her family and friends. Her exceptional spirit, compassion, and generosity were inspiring to all those around her.
Cora’s celebration of life will be held at Cooke’s Presbyterian Church on Wellington Avenue in Chilliwack on Friday, February 26th, 2010 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC and Yukon.
