Chuck HAMPTON

Charles Meredith (Chuck) Hampton of Surrey BC, passed away peacefully at Peace Arch Hospital on November 2, 2005.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara, and his five children: Charles Jr. (Joni) of Vernon BC, Bruce (Wendy) of Kamloops, B.C., Laurie Bradley (David) of Surrey, Diane Durand of Vancouver, and Nancy Sharer (Scott) of Clovis, California. Chuck was the proud grandfather of fifteen grandchildren. He also had one great grandson.

He is also survived by his brother John, of Portland Oregon and Meg Pauletich, of Orinda, California.

Chuck was born and raised in Tacoma, Washington, where he met and married Barbara. After returning from Italy, where he served with the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division, he attended Oregon State University, where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega. He then began what was a successful 40 year career in the lumber business. In 1955, he immigrated with his family to Canada, where he managed the Canadian portion of his family’s business.

After retirement, Chuck kept active with his family and the various activities of the 10th Mountain Division. Chuck wrote several books about the events of World War 2 and was working on a book describing his business experiences entitled ‘One Hell Of A Run’ when he passed away.

Chuck will be remembered mostly for his sense of humour, his commitment in the face of adversity, his love of mountains and all they represent, and his pride in his family.

A celebration of Chuck’s life will be held on Saturday, November 26th, 2005, 2:00pm at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, 14831-28th Avenue, Surrey, B.C. Phone: 604-536-6522.
