Charles passed away at the age of 87 years after a battle with skin cancer on Friday, September 5, 2008 at the George Derby Centre, Burnaby, BC.

Charles was born in Gouroch, Scotland to John & Grace Kane. They immigrated to Canada when he was three years old. They settled in Red Deer and then Calgary. Charles served with the Royal Canadian Navy from July 1941-Oct. 1942 and with the Canadian Army - Royal Canadian Artillery Trans from 1943-1946, C.I.C. (C.C.R. of C.) Rank -Rifleman where he was posted to the UK & Continental Europe. Charles’ medals received were C.V.S.M. & Clasp, 1930-46 Star and France & Germany Star.

Charles left Calgary in the 1980’s and settled in Chilliwack, BC, where he loved the weather, golf and small town living.

Charles is survived by his children: Colleen Teters, Bonnie Bryant (Ron), Bradley Kane, Wendy Mather (Dave), Robin Dixon (Paul) and their families. He is also survived by his sisters Molly and Doreen, his brothers Bill and Terry and many nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by his siblings Hugh, Dan, Grace, Jack, Jim and Ronnie.

A small memorial service will be held Monday, September 29, 2008 at 1:30 pm at the George Derby Centre, 7550 Cumberland St, Burnaby, BC.

We would like to thank the staff of the George Derby Centre for their very patient, caring and compassionate care for Charles during the past nine months while he lived there.
