Charles Edward Bingham passed away in his sleep at Ivy Lodge in Surrey. Born in Amulet, Sask., Charlie had lived in Chilliwack for the past 14 years.

Prior to that time he had resided in Salmon Arm for more than 20 years. He was married to Mildred June of Salmon Arm (November 27, 1919 - May 5, 1992), and is survived by son Michael Bingham of Ashland, Oregon; daughter Wendy DeHart of Wilsonville, Oregon; and his niece Lyn Standerwick of Vancouver. He had four grandchildren, Erin Overbey, Lisa Gilges, Paul Bingham and Christopher Bingham; and three great-grandchildren, Kelsey Overbey, Patrick Overbey, and Tate Gilges.

Charlie served as a Sergeant in the Canadian Air Force during the Second World War, and was stationed in various bases across Canada. While a resident of Chilliwack he was a dedicated volunteer driver for the Cancer Society, transporting patients to the Cancer Centre in Vancouver. He also enjoyed years of participation with the Seniors’ Floor Curling Group.

He had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease within the past two years and had been able to live independently until January of this year.

The family has honoured his wishes that he be cremated and a private family celebration of his life will be held in the near future.

Memorials may be made to the Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
