Carol Stearn died suddenly after a brief illness April 23, 2009 in Chilliwack General Hospital.

She was born in Yorkton, Sask. on March 19, 1925 to Hugh and Eleanor (Burke) McLachlan and had two brothers: Bert and Lorne, and one sister, Doris.

She completed her Grade XII at the Yorkton Collegiate in 1943. Carol worked as a receptionist for Dr. Whittaker, then on the order desk at the Smith Fruit Warehouse. She was always involved in sports, and it was while she was captain of the Yorkton girls softball team, that she met Art Stearn, having challenged all the sailors home on leave to a softball game. The rest is history, as they were married in the United Church in Yorkton on May 11, 1946.

She worked in the rural municipality of Stanley for 27 and a half years, during which time, she joined The Order of the Eastern Star. After serving as the Secretary for a number of years, became the Worthy Matron in 1977, District Deputy Grand Matron in 1982 and became the Grand Representative to Maryland.

She retired in 1984, and they moved to Sardis, BC. They joined the Chilliwack Senior Veterans Society, where she served as Secretary Treasurer for 18 years. She enjoyed golf and bowling playing cards and Casino visits.

She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Bert and Lorne and sister Doris.

Survived by her husband Art; daughter Phyllis, son Hugh; daughter-in-law Barbara; grandson David and granddaughter Heather, numerous nieces, nephews and many other relatives.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Chilliwack Senior Veterans Society on May 16, 2009 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.
