Bert BRITTON

October 1, 2008

(nee MacFarlane)

(Jan. 14, 1919 - Oct. 1, 2008)

Bert, peacefully and with dignity, passed away at Chilliwack General Hospital.

Born in Chilliwack to John and Phoebe with seven brothers and seven sisters, she shared the many chores on the family’s Fairfield Island farm.

Growing up she worked at Pickard’s and The Peaks restaurant downtown and then at the Harrison Hotel.

She met and married Dick, the love of her life and they traveled with many friends and family over the years, but her heart was always at home. She was an active community member and loved her church - her strength. Many years of family gatherings were celebrated in her home. Saturday coffee with Audrey and 4:30 wine with Ev. For over 20 years the little community of Edenbank was her home and she loved her dear friends in “Diner’s Club.”

Bert battled cancer for over forty years and it took her young son Brian, but it did not end her life, she won.

She passes her strength and joy of life to daughter Barb; granddaughters: Chris and Carly, great-grandchildren Brandon, Bailie, and Spencer; sisters, Jean, Irene, Phoebe, Dorothy, and brother Keith, brothers-in-law Tony, and Dick; sisters-in-law Jean, Lorena and Chickie, and so many cherished nieces and nephews.

Bert and Dick have a bond through eternity, may they forever sit together on his bench in Eden.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
