Barbara Jean Cattermole Laird passed away to go dancing with Walter and Dick, on Sept. 9, 2009 at Chilliwack General Hospital at the age of 85 years.
Our darling mother was an exceptional, extraordinary, amazing, kind, loving and wise wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Mom arrived in Chilliwack in 1945 as an English war-bride married to a Canadian soldier, Richard Dick Cattermole, and had 2 daughters.
After Dick’s untimely death, mom married Walter Laird and had a son and daughter.
Mom not only built a strong, loving family but had built victorious bombers in the U.K. in WWII.
Mom loved her flower gardens, dancing, and sharing of herself and her home with all family and friends. Mom was a sweet, supportive, strong-willed, loving grandma. Mom was a loving and kind wife and adored by her 2 husbands Walter and Dick.
To her children, mom’s high standards for excellence, courage, stoicism, kindness and loving nature provided us with the tools to share productive, successful and loving lives with our families.
Barbara with her happy, positive, vivacious attitude, happy face and twinkling blue eyes will be missed. Mom is with the Lord and sure to be his special angel. Our extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother and friend will live in our hearts forever.

She is survived by children Sandra and Garry Ackerman, Gwendie and Clare Scott, Keith and Bobby Laird, Barbie and Mike Oscienny, as well as grandchildren Mercades and Theodora Rose, Jason, Stacy and Nicole, and Angela, Laird and Natalie, special niece in U.K. Janie, Tims, Els, Sam. Sadly predeceased by Walter Laird and Richard “Dick” Cattermole.
A Celebration of Barbara’s Life will be held at 10:30 am Friday, Sept. 18, 2009 at St. John’s Anglican Church, 46098 Higginson Road, Sardis.
