Aug. 1, 1922-Nov. 1, 2009

Barbara Visagie passed away peacefully at Chilliwack General Hospital on November 1, 2009, with her three sons at her side.

Barbara was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, David in 2006. She will be greatly missed by her sons: Henrik (Dianne), grandchildren David and Jennifer (Rob) of Oakville, Ontario, David (Wendy) and grandchild Blair of North Vancouver and Robert (Debbie) and grandchildren Vashti, Dallas and Connor of Chilliwack.

Barbara was born in Belper, Derbyshire, England. Following her school years she enlisted in the Second World War as a Volunteer Aid Detachment with the British Army Medical Corps. While being stationed at a hospital in northern Italy she met her future husband, David who was enlisted with the South African Army. Following the war they married, moved to Canada and ultimately settled in Chilliwack where they spent much time in the garden, travelling, having coffee and talking about the future. Barbara loved to travel whether it was to England to see relatives or locally to visit friends. She enjoyed meeting new people and extending her group of friends. She was a strong willed person who lived life its fullest on her own terms and will be greatly missed.

We would like to take the opportunity to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Chilliwack General Hospital for making her last days comfortable. In addition, a special thanks to the Congregation of Cooke’s Presbyterian Church for their support, hopes and prayers over the last year.

A Celebration of Barbara’s Life will be held at Cooke’s Presbyterian Church, 45825 Wellington Street, Chilliwack, B.C. at 2:00p.m. on Saturday, November 14th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Gywnne Vaughan Park Society c/o: Box: 330 Chilliwack, B.C. V2P 7V5.
