Arthur Clinton RAINES

February 9, 2003

(Oct. 31, 1923 - Feb. 9, 2003)

Arthur passed away peacefully into the loving arms of God on Feb. 9, 2003 in his 80th year at the Chilliwack General Hospital.

Arthur was born at Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, BC. As a young child, the family moved to Ladner, BC, where he was raised. Arthur worked on fishing boats as a young boy, then when World War II started, he was just old enough to join the Canadian Army, The Cape Breton Highlanders. He served in the Italian campaigns.

When the war ended, he was sent back to England where he met his wife, Evelyn on V-E Day. They were married six months later and started their family. They travelled back and forth from England and Canada, until they settled in Tsawwassen, BC in 1979, and all of their nine children settled there too.

In 1993, Arthur and Evelyn moved to Chilliwack where Arthur spent his final years.

Arthur leaves behind a loving wife, Evelyn; children: Carl (Susan), Lynda (Peter), David (Jane), Norman (Jill), Philip (Cherie), Ken, Paula (Bill), Leisa (Tony), and Tara (Brad); 17 grandchildren: Mark, David, Brad, Samantha, Andrew, Michael, Claire, Patrick, Cameron, Natalie, Sarah, Ashley, Jay, Hannah, Michaela, Aaron and Emily.

He was predeceased by his mother, Evelyn; stepfather, Alfred Dennis (Spud); father, Herbert Raines, and sister, Mildred.

Arthur spent the last few years of his life in a courageous and brave battle with cancer. We would like to say a special thanks to Dr. Kerr, Palliative Care and the entire medical services of Chilliwack for the wonderful care they gave our Dad through his illness.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003 at the Delta Funeral Home Chapel, Ladner, BC.

If friends so desire, a donation to the Canuck‘s Place would be appreciated.
