March 17, 1942 - March 21, 2024

In Loving Memory - the world changes from year to year, our lives change from day to day but the love and memory of you will never fade away.

Arlene Annette Currie was born on March 17, 1942, in Chilliwack. She passed away in Chilliwack on March 21, 2024, at age 82.

She is survived by daughters Debbie and Maxine, her grandchildren Nicholas and Shalyn, sister Sandra (Robert), and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Arlene was predeceased by her father Karl, mother Lorraine, sister Lauretta and brothers Ken and Darryl.

Mom was always passionate about numbers and worked for many years in banking and in a notary office, and was an insurance broker, owning her own insurance company RW Simpson 1978 Limited. She was also involved in many community activities and industry associations, including the establishment of the Columbia Valley Ratepayer's Association, and the Columbia Valley Volunteer Fire Department.

Mom loved animals and gardening, and in her younger years she enjoyed bowling. She also loved to play card games and Scrabble with her family. Mom was one of the best cheerleaders in the Valley, supporting her family and being involved in keeping them active in sports.

Gramma was ruthless on the cribbage board, teaching Shalyn and Nick well to count their fifteens and not miss any runs. Her signature rain dance was known to many, as was her kindness and intense love for her family. Mom was a keeper of stories and had a keen knack for details when recounting them - especially if she wanted us laughing.

Her green thumb and love for pulling weeds were only outmatched by her unique talent for finding four-leaf clovers. Gramma was one of the toughest women we knew, resilient and steadfast in her ability to take lemons and make lemonade. Arlene loved her children and grandchildren deeply, and they loved her the same - always.

A Celebration of Life will be held in honour of Arlene at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to a charity of your choice.
