nee Hopman

December 16, 1928 to October 23, 2010

We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of our dear Mother, Anna on October 23, 2010, in Nanaimo, B.C. Mom was granted her final wish to join our Dad, her life long soul mate. Predeceased by her husband John in July 2003, she is survived by daughters: Trixie, (Fred) Marilyn, (Glen) Yolanda, (Bruce) Annette, (Steve); sons: John and Steven (Karen). She has 13 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. Anna also has 2 surviving sisters and numerous relatives residing in Holland and many dear friends in Canada.

Anna immigrated to Canada in 1952 where she and our Dad took up residence in Deroche BC, where our Dad wanted to have his own dairy farm. In 1960 our parents purchased their dream, a dairy farm in Sumas Prairie where they lived for 30 years. Anna spent many happy years making a loving, happy home for her husband and six children. She also worked side by side with our Dad, on the farm.

After years spent raising a large family and operating a farm, our parents bought a retirement home in the community of Sardis, where they happily resided for 20 years.

During her retirement years Anna was very physically active, enjoying walks by her favorite spot at the Vedder River, biking with her friends, curling and skiing. She also loved camping with her husband, John. They would take their fifth-wheel and head out to the Oregon Coast. Over the years she also devoted many hours to volunteer work in the community of Chilliwack. Mom also loved music, and spent many happy hours singing with the Heritage Singers. In September 2009, Mom finally settled in Nanaimo to be near her daughters.

Our dear Mother’s passions truly were her family and friends. Her children feel very blessed for having their passionate mother with them, over the stepping stones of life. She will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and will be held in the community of Chilliwack.
