Aaldrik Edens passed away on January 1st, 2009 at the Chilliwack General Hospital with his family by his side at age 82 years. He was born on September 11th, 1926 in Bellingwolde Groningen, Holland.
He will be sadly missed by his loving family, his loving wife of 61 years, Zwaantje, daughter Wobbina Peacock, son Eddie (Glennis) Edens, grandchildren Teresa, Richard (Willow), Larry and Andrew (Jaylene) Peacock, Cori Mitchell, Randy VanderWyk, Beverley (Clarke) Thomson, Valerie Edens and Heidi (Rob) Hillard and special great-grandson, Hayden Thomson. Also survived by his youngest sister Harmke Jasper in Holland, many extended family members and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Geert and Harmke Edens and 11 brothers and sisters.
Aaldrik came to Canada with his family in 1952. He worked on the Golden Hop Farms in Sardis until 1960. After working as a carpenter for 2 years he returned to be a foreman at the Fairfield Hop Farms until his retirement. He loved sports especially soccer, having played on a major team in Holland in his younger years. He also loved to watch hockey and wrestling. He was an avid bowler and he enjoyed fishing and camping. Aaldrik was a proud member of the Golden Age Group. But the most important people in his life were his family whom he loved dearly.
A viewing for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, January 6th 2009 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Henderson’s Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 7th 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel at Henderson’s Funeral Home – 45901 Victoria Avenue, Chilliwack, with burial at Chilliwack Cemeteries following the service.
Pallbearers are Richard Peacock, Larry Peacock, Andrew Peacock, Randy VanderWyk, Richard Simpson, and Lance Van Basten. Reverend Carel Geleynse officiating.
