Nine Upper Fraser Valley RCMP officers removed 249 impaired drivers from the roads in 2019, earning spots on Alexa’s Team.
Alexa’s team was founded in 2008 in memory of four-year-old Alexa Middelaer, who was killed by an impaired driver.
Supported by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), ICBC, RCMP, and municipal police agencies across the province, officers qualify for Alexa’s Team by nabbing 12 impaired drivers and earn all-star status by taking 25 off the road.
“Our officers exemplify our dedication to making the roadways of the communities of the Upper Fraser Valley safer to travel,” said UFVRD Superintendent Bryon Massie. “Their work is commendable with, recognition of their efforts of well earned.”
Cst. Mike Sabulsky made the Alexa’s Team roster for the 11th time and earned all-star status for the 10th time. An RCMP officer since 2009 who was posted to Chilliwack in 2011, Sabulsky is a member of the Chilliwack Traffic Services Unit.

Cst. Mathew Ladouceur is with the same unit and made Alexa’s Team for a second straight year, also achieving all-star status.
Cst. Kyle Bowness made Alexa’s Team for a third time while Cst. Erich Kern earned the distinction for a second straight year. Both are front-line officers with the Chilliwack RCMP.
Members of Alexa’s Team for the first time include Chilliwack front-line officer Cst. Abigail Meeten, Agassiz RCMP officers Cst. Kyle Toole and Benjamin Stewart and Fraser Valley Traffic Services member Harpreet Aulakh.
Another first-time Alexa’s Teamer, Cst. Brett Urano, was posted to Chilliwack Traffic Services in 2019 and now serves as a RCMP front-line officer in Creston, B.C.
“Chilliwack RCMP’s commitment to stopping impaired driving in our community is unwavering,” said Inspector Davy Lee of Chilliwack RCMP. “We are proud to have Constables Sabulsky, Urano, Bowness, Ladouceur, Kern, Meeten, Toole, Stewart and Aulakh named to this year’s Alexa’s Team.”
While serving in Agassiz, Surrey RCMP Cpl. James Manson also received Alexa’s Team recognition for his work while posted to Mission RCMP.
The officers received their awards at a Nov. 4 presentation at the Chilliwack RCMP Community Policing Office (CPO).
