A suspected ‘chop shop’ was shut down and one man was arrested after police executed a search warrant on a property outside Agassiz Oct. 28.

Multiple theft reports and evidence gathered by Agassiz RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) led police to search the 10000-block of Parkwood Drive and arrest a man, 49, from Popkum, who was later released.

During the search, police seized welding equipment, dirt bike parts and other components of a ‘chop shop.’ Police also seized cell phones, global positioning systems, insurance papers, passports, IDs and credit cards linked to thefts in the Bridal Falls area.

“Protecting property from being stolen and the reduction of theft remains a high priority within our community,” says Sgt. Darren Rennie of the Agassiz RCMP.

Police recommend protecting property by locking vehicle doors, keeping valuables out of sight and removing them at night.

RCMP remind everyone who witnesses anything they believe to be suspicious in nature to contact the Agassiz RCMP at 604-796-2211 or, should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
