The idea of the planning event is to have a big-picture discussion about the future of the Sardis neighbourhood in small groups.

An interactive workshop is slated for Nov. 4 with folks sitting down to discuss scenarios with the latest info about the Sardis Neighbourhood Plan.

City of Chilliwack staff and consultants with Urban Systems will be facilitating the workshop, which will include breaking down into smaller groups, similar to what they did with the Chilliwack Proper/Fairfield Island Neighbourhood Plan.

The Sardis Neighbourhood Plan has already been the subject of a public information meeting, where a solid 350 people turned out to talk about creating a comprehensive neighbourhood plan for the Sardis area.

Residents learned at that meeting that Sardis is expected to grow to 6,800 residents with 4,000 new dwellings. An online survey also yielded 600 replies, and those comments and feedback will be acknowledged at the upcoming workshop.

They’ll start the workshop off with a recap, look at what the Official Community Plan says about the Sardis Neighbourhood, and discuss overarching goals. Participants will break into small groups to discuss the best ways to integrate community priorities into the Sardis plan.

The plan’s overall goal is to establish a common vision for the neighbourhood and provide clear direction for future decision-making about growth and infill in Sardis, with a focus on complete and healthy community development.

Everyone is asked to pre-register ASAP. Email planning@chilliwack.com or call 604-793-2906 to RSVP for Nov. 4 and choose one of the following workshop times:

Session 1: Carman United Church, 10 a.m to 12 noon, 7258 Vedder Road;

Session 2: Sardis Fellowship Baptist Church, 2:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. (please note: doors are not open before 2 p.m.), 45187 Wells Road;

Session 3: Sardis Elementary School, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., 45775 Manuel Road.

“We look forward to working with you and hearing your ideas as we discuss key themes and neighbourhood specific priorities!” according to the city website.

Topics will include:

• Mobility - how people get around

• Greenspace/trails - these rated highly in the survey

• Housing - always a big topic

• Amenities - examine through different lens and demographics

“If you cannot attend this workshop, please review the project website at chilliwack.com/sardisplan for updates on the planning process and upcoming opportunities to get involved.”
