Marble Hill Road at Ramsay Place is closed for a few days following a slide, according to City of Chilliwack.

The road repair was underway with heavy equipment on-site in the wake of a slide incident overnight Tuesday (Nov. 30).

“Crews are replacing failed and damaged culverts. This is expected to take several days,” said the city update Dec. 1.

As soon as it was light on Dec. 1 city crews undertook a thorough assessment of the slide area in the Eastern Hillsides at Marble Hill Road at Ramsay Place.

Part of Thornton Road had also slumped this week due to excessive rain. One lane was closed Wednesday.

There was also a slide on Alma Avenue, but was contained by a retaining wall. Crews are also working on downed trees. Sloughing on Camp River Road necessitated a lane closure, and staff were on site there as well.

Local residents were applauding efforts of city staff online.

”I am a resident of Ramsay place, one of the properties affected by this mess,” commented Matthew G. Brown. “I just want to say how impressed and pleased I am with the tireless efforts by the city operations staff. Without their quick call to action this morning at 4 a.m. this event could have been catastrophic for the residents of Ramsay Place and Elk Creek estates.”
